India has always been rich in culture and tradition, and games have been an essential part of Indian culture since time immemorial. Indigenous games reflect aspects of our cultural values and behavioral norms and were used to reinforce them. Indigenous games are such a device - they teach healthy competition, mutual tolerance, and thinking skills for facing problems, and the attitude to accept defeat and show dignity in victory. Indigenous games still exist in these communities and the communities nurture them as an important part of their culture. Presidians of Grade IV learned about Indigenous games under the Social Science theme – Play. They explored regional games from around India’s different states etc., and made posters and spoke a few sentences about them. By playing these Indigenous games, students could connect with their heritage through sports, which had a deep, lifelong positive impact on them.
