“Feelings are much like waves, we can’t stop them from coming, but we can choose which one to surf.” – Jonathan Martensson
Feelings and emotions are a gift to us and one of the things that makes humans different from other species. To make our students understand the importance of expressing themselves, a topic related to ‘feelings’ under Lifeskills was taken up with Students of Grade 2. Students understood that it is very natural to feel happy or sad, angry or scared! It is also important for them to think about why they feel in a certain way. If they think about what it is that makes us feel like we do, we can then try to control our reactions. Students shared their feelings with peer group, and teachers with ease. There followed a fruitful discussion on anger management and managing their feelings especially in the difficult times of Covid, when students were not able to play outside, share with friends, general feeling of being bored, and productive utilization of time at home.
