Patterns are an intrinsic part of our world- one can find them in nature, art, math, music, and almost everywhere and all around us. Learning to recognize, identify, extend, and create designs is an essential skill that helps lay the foundation of advanced math skills. With this belief, we at Presidium conducted few activities related to Patterns and gave our young Presidians of Grade-1 hands-on experience with concrete materials. They observed patterns around them and showcased them with blocks, shapes, symbols, matchsticks, colors, fruits, vegetables, leaves, rangoli, legos, animal bodies, etc. Students also participated in the rhythmic clapping game, where different patterns were practiced by clapping hands. Pattern recognition activities help to reinforce understanding of basic math concepts in students. These interesting activities developed problem-solving and critical thinking skills in the leaders of tomorrow.
